When does CCW reject a Cisco order with no DNA?

An error and a separate-order prompt are the same unfinished order.

When does CCW reject a Cisco order with no DNA? Published 2026-09-29. TAOHAN writes this for a China enterprise buyer. Channel price is pending confirmation. If you will not use Catalyst Center or SD-Access, buy DNA Essentials for 3 years and do not renew. SD-WAN controller mode must renew. C9600 and C8500 have no Essentials.

Source notes follow Cisco switching, wireless, and ordering documents linked below. This page is a China enterprise checklist from TAOHAN. It is not a substitute for the live CCW message or your Cisco agreement. No public discount matrix is invented here. Any price is pending confirmation.

Quick Take

Quick Take: CCW finishes a Cisco hardware order only when the DNA or Networking Subscription line is on that order. Sometimes the configurator errors if you skip it. Sometimes it lets the hardware finish and tells you to order the subscription separately. Both mean the line is still required.

For a China enterprise RFQ, TAOHAN issues a dated quote. Any channel price on that quote is pending confirmation. A 13% VAT special fapiao can be issued with the invoice. If the site will not use Catalyst Center or SD-Access, buy DNA Essentials for 3 years and do not renew. SD-WAN controller mode must renew. C9600 and C8500 have no Essentials tier.

Two ways CCW hangs the same subscription

Quick Answer: Cisco DNA on a new Catalyst order is a required subscription line. Pattern A blocks the hardware configuration until you pick a term. Pattern B lets the hardware configuration finish and then prompts you to order DNA separately. A finished hardware screen is not a finished order.

Do not build a platform matrix from memory. The practical test is the message CCW shows on this PID. If the configuration errors, you are in pattern A. If it says the subscription must be ordered separately, you are in pattern B. In both cases the order needs that line before you can call it complete.

Cisco's Catalyst 9000 ordering guides describe pattern A in writing: you select a 3-year, 5-year, or 7-year term to finish the configuration. First purchase does not offer 1x a one-year SKU. That shorter term shows up at renewal. Pattern B shows up when hardware and the subscription are separate PIDs. Documented examples include Catalyst 9100 access points ordered apart from AIR-DNA licenses, and a Meraki-SKU Catalyst 9300 whose term license is ordered on its own line.

Pattern A vs pattern B is the same unfinished order: one errors inside the chassis configuration, the other asks for a second subscription line.

What complete looks like

Quick Answer: The order is complete when the subscription PID, the tier, and the term are visible, whether CCW forced them inside the chassis configuration or asked for a second line. A hardware-only quote that still shows the separate-order prompt is an unfinished configuration, not a discount.

What you see in CCWWhat you still addNarrow exception
Error if DNA is emptyTerm inside the hardware configurationNone for that PID
Prompt to order DNA separatelyA second subscription lineNone, unless an opt-out below applies
EWC and DNA-OPTOUTNo DNA termPerpetual Network Essentials; add DNA later for Catalyst Center
9100 onto AireOS with perpetual AP licensesNo new DNA termOnly when those perpetual licenses already cover the APs
LIC-CS, LIC-CW, or LIC-CSWANThat Networking Subscription lineC9550 and C9610 are Advantage only

Newer smart switches use Cisco Networking Subscription names instead of a DNA PID. C9350 can be Switching Essentials or Advantage. C9550 and C9610 are Advantage only, and C9610 uses LIC-CS-CO-MO-A. The completion test does not change: the subscription line has to be on the order. C9600 and C8500, on the older DNA naming, are also Advantage only. Do not hunt for an Essentials option the guide does not list.

How to finish the configuration

Quick Answer: Read the CCW message before you delete a line. An error means pick the term in the hardware configuration. A separate-order prompt means add that subscription PID. Call the order done only when the line is present, unless DNA-OPTOUT or existing AireOS perpetual licenses apply.

  1. Step 1. Build the hardware PID and read whether CCW errors or prompts for a separate DNA order.
  2. Step 2. If it errors, select the term in that configuration. If it prompts, add the subscription as its own line.
  3. Step 3. On EWC only, DNA-OPTOUT is a real opt-out to perpetual Network Essentials.
  4. Step 4. Save the CCW message with the quote so procurement can see why the line exists.

A 60-day start delay is a commercial option on many of these terms. It does not remove the line. It only moves the day the clock starts. Put the term length in the configuration notes so nobody later "helps" by stripping the subscription to make the total look smaller.

Typical scenario: hardware looks done, the order is not

Quick Answer: A typical scenario is an integrator who clears the hardware page with no DNA selected, sees a prompt to order the subscription separately, and sends purchasing a hardware-only total. CCW has not accepted that as a full order. The missing line is still mandatory.

Label this as a typical scenario. The fix is to add the subscription PID CCW named, at the tier the design needs, for a 3-year, 5-year, or 7-year term. It is not to shop for a platform list of "which switches allow a skip." If you cannot remember which family prompted you last time, use the prompt in front of you.

Embedded Wireless Controller is the case to slow down. DNA-OPTOUT is printed in CCW for that mode. Using it means the AP runs Network Essentials without Catalyst Center. The moment the design needs Catalyst Center, each AP needs its DNA term. Do not paste DNA-OPTOUT onto a 9800 campus design that was never an EWC.

What to hand to procurement

Quick Answer: Hand over the subscription PID, the tier, the term, and a copy of the CCW error or the separate-order prompt. Without that prompt, a buyer will read a hardware-only price as a saving. With it, they can see the line is how Cisco completes the order.

You are not asked to explain, on this page, why the network still runs after year three. You are asked to stop exporting a configuration that CCW itself will not book. Attach the two screenshots, or the exported BOM, and mark pattern A or pattern B in the email subject so the commercial team does not reopen the same argument on every refresh.

FAQ

If CCW errors without DNA, can I ignore it?
No. That hardware configuration will not complete until you select a term.
If the hardware page allows no DNA, am I done?
No. When CCW prompts you to order DNA separately, that second line is still required.
Is DNA-OPTOUT a general skip?
No. It is the Embedded Wireless Controller choice for perpetual Network Essentials without Catalyst Center.
What if the SKU says LIC-CS instead of DNA?
That is a Cisco Networking Subscription. The order still needs the subscription line. C9610 and C9550 are Advantage only.

Key Takeaway

Key Takeaway: Treat a CCW error and a separate-order prompt as the same unfinished order until the subscription line is present. TAOHAN supplies Cisco configurations with competitive pricing and China delivery after you send the CCW message, not a guess about the platform.

Need the CCW message turned into a bookable line?

Send the CCW error or the separate-order prompt with the chassis. TAOHAN maps the subscription line with competitive pricing. The figure stays pending confirmation, and the China invoice can carry a 13% VAT special fapiao.
